June Newsletter
It is hard to believe that summer is here, and I am so proud of the work that our Petey Greene Program tutors, staff, partners, and most importantly students, have accomplished so far this year. While we begin to implement our new five-year strategic plan, the Petey Greene Program will continue its journey to bring education to those impacted by our criminal legal system, both behind and beyond the walls of our prisons and jails.
As we all sit back and take time to relax, regroup, and hopefully recharge with our loved ones, I hope that we can also take some time to consider what each of us can do to help make change happen for those needing educational and reentry support services. One easy way to get involved is to join us this coming September 26th at our Going Greene event. This year we will be honoring Larry Miller, the Chairman of the Jordan Brand, for his commitment to activism and personal experience through the justice system. There are multiple ways to get involved: reach out to join our hosting and planning committee; become a sponsor of the event, donate sports memorabilia to be auctioned at the event; buy yourself a seat or sponsor a ticket for someone that has been justice impacted. We can’t wait to see you there!
We hope that you have a safe and enjoyable summer and look forward to you joining us as we continue to move forward with passion and purpose.
Best,
Jeffrey Abramowitz, CEO of the Petey Greene Program

Going Greene, the Petey Greene Program’s annual fundraiser, brings together our students, volunteers, staff, community, and other individuals who have played a significant role in furthering our mission of supporting the academic and career goals of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people through high-quality tutoring and other educational programs.
This year, we are gathering with and recognizing leaders in sports who have made criminal justice reform one of their key philanthropic goals. Sports have a unique ability to transcend boundaries, bring people together and highlight our common humanity while offering opportunities to people beyond what they may have thought was initially possible. In celebration of both the power of sports and education, we will be honoring Larry Miller, the Chairman of the Board of the Jordan Brand, for his commitment to activism and personal experiences through the justice system.

We have an office full of new faces this summer as we are joined by incredible interns! Meet Abby and Hannah, both Communications and Social Media interns who are working with the PGP this summer.
Abby is a first-generation college student at the University of Pennsylvania, majoring in Political Philosophy with minors in Africana Studies and Creative Writing. Outside the classroom, Abby is a fervent advocate for diversity, inclusion, and equity - bringing a deep passion and commitment of these values to her community.
Hannah is a rising senior at the University of Maryland studying Digital Media Communication. She is passionate about using digital storytelling and rhetoric as a tool to uplift individual stories and bring awareness to the injustices in the carceral system, as well as how they connect to other social justice issues impacting marginalized communities across the nation. We are so excited to have them both on board for the next few weeks of the summer!
