Training and Engagement
A key feature of the Petey Greene Program is the way we prepare and engage with volunteers to not only provide high-quality tutoring in support of the academic goals of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people, but also what we do to assist volunteers in becoming justice-oriented citizens. The Petey Greene Program volunteer tutors learn how to tutor in carceral settings and how to tutor those impacted by the carceral state. Our volunteers also learn how to provide a high-quality tutoring service. Finally, volunteers learn about the injustices manifested by the carceral state so that they can engage ethically, avoid carceral humanism, become advocates, and take on leadership roles that reimagine the criminal legal system. How We Can Support You!
The PGP has fifteen years of experience providing academic support services for incarcerated and formerly incarcerated learners. Building on this experience, the PGP can help other organizations, companies, and universities develop systems, learning opportunities, and tools to advance educational justice inside and outside carceral spaces. We have an extensive network of partners including local community organizations and correctional institutions to help create workshops, lectures, training resources, and more.
