October 2023 Newsletter

I was so thrilled to participate in this past weekend's 2nd Annual 5K Run/Walk for Education Justice. I joined our runners and walkers at our Boston course and was inspired by their energy and enthusiasm throughout the day. We had more than 200 people join us in Princeton, Boston, and virtually from wherever they were. Thanks to the generosity and involvement of our community, we raised nearly $30,000 to continue providing high-quality academic programming for incarcerated learners to help them reach their personal goals.

And we're not done yet! We hope that you will continue this momentum and join us for our next event: Going Greene on November 18th. We will be celebrating the intersection of the creative and performing arts with personal achievement and educational justice. We hope to see you in-person at WHYY in Philadelphia or you can join us virtually. We are looking forward to seeing you again very soon!

LGBTQ+ people are overrepresented in our country's prisons and jails but their specific experiences with the carceral system are less discussed and examined. We will be highlighting their stories in our next Justice Education Series webinar, "LGBTQ+ Experiences and Identities in the Age of Mass Incarceration." We will be joined by advocates, allies, and justice-impacted people who identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community as they share their experiences and the work they do.

Photo of the Month!

After completing the 5K this weekend, our runners and walkers were invited to write letters of support and encouragement to incarcerated young people through our partnership with BreakFree Education. These letters will be shared throughout the holidays to let them know that the Petey Greene community is thinking of them and cheering them on as they complete their studies this semester!

Thanks to the generous support of donors like you, we continue to support the educational journeys of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people by providing the high-quality, individualized tutoring and academic support that every learner needs to achieve their educational goals. Please donate today.
