PGP NY Joins the Nextgen Neighborhood Network

The PGP NY joined the Nextgen Neighborhood Network—a new reentry initiative funded by the Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice and led by the Center for Community Alternatives—as a subcontracted support provider. The PGP is tutoring formerly incarcerated youth, alongside several neighborhood-based organizations providing wraparound support to 750 youth impacted by the criminal legal system.

The PGP NY’s support for youth includes:

  • Homework tutoring

  • State exam preparation

  • High school equivalency tutoring

  • Preparation for trade school

  • Tutoring for students pursuing associate degrees in community college

Being a volunteer with the Petey Greene Program has afforded me the opportunity to work alongside a wonderfully charismatic scholar named Jeffrey. His palpable compassion is coupled with an unrelenting eagerness to learn, which is perhaps best evidenced by the staggering amount of ground that we’ve been able to cover. We worked towards creating outlines for research papers, brainstorming ways in which we could improve our writing process, and breaking down large tasks into manageable and actionable pieces. Jeffrey’s goal is to graduate college with flying colors, and there is not a shadow of a doubt in my mind that Jeffrey will accomplish this goal and many more. I am beyond elated to tag along during his journey.

Working with Sagar is the best. He teaches me different techniques and is very, very helpful.
